From the prologue: This book is... a series of jottings taken from my memories of the nine years I spent with the company, describing incidents that occured and people I came into contact with. I have tried to give a light hearted account of the period between 1954 and 1963, and I hope... that these few pages will enable future generations to understand something of the lives of the people who contributed to the success and prosperity of the Manchester Ship Canal Company during this period.
