Newport Pagnell is a town in Buckinghamshire, and this book provides a fascinating brief insight into what life was like in the town in decades gone by....
From the introduction: Most people writing a story of their life, are, or have been, well known for their achievements in politics, entertainment, industry or sporting activities. I have no such claim to fame, quite the opposite. Like the vast majority of people my life has been very ordinary but I feel lucky to have reached the age of an octogenarian. My main achievement is having four sons, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren, of which I am very proud. Many of the major events and influences during my early life are totally different to the modern day child's experience. But some time in the future, my grandchildren and great grandchildren may wonder what life was like for their grandparents and could contrast the changes that have taken place over the generations. That is what has compelled me to try to recall some of my memories. Unfortunately memories often fail us as we get old, so it is possible that I may have misplaced some of the timings and perhaps a few names in my narrative and for this I apologise, but I am happy to think that I can remember so many of these events in my early life...
Condition of the book is generally very good. The cover has one or two very minor scuffs but is clean and bright, the spine is intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.
