Book published by Miliquest, 130 pages. Paperback (N4783)

From the rear side cover: The 12th (Pioneer) Battalion the Sherwood Foresters was the Pioneer Battalion of the 24th Division. Like so many other such designated Battalions serving with the army in France and the Flanders, they had particularly arduous and extremely dangerous and tiring tasks to perform, and they often didn't receive the recognition due to them.

The Battalions spent their time digging trenches and dugouts in an effort to make life at the front that much easier for the infantryman, as well as repairing roads and putting in communication trenches and wiring in advance of forward positions. In the main they would operate at night when they could not be seen by the enemy, often working up to their waists in thick mud.

The history of the 12th battalion has never previously been written, and up to now there has been a void in the sequence of regimental histories avaialble. The authors trust that the reader will feel that their endeavours have managed to produce an acceptable history of the 12th (Pioneer) Battalion The Sherwood Foresters, therby filling this gap.
